The Japanese Kiridashi knife design was our inspiration for The Smith.
This compact version measures about 4” in length, with a cutting edge just under 2” long.
We use 1095 carbon steel for The Smith. This steel gives the knife remarkable edge retention and toughness. When treated right, this knife will last for decades to come.
The rough shape of the blade is cut by hand, then we take it to the grinder for shaping. As flecks of white-hot metal fly, the knife comes to life.
Once the body of the knife is complete, it goes to the wet-stone for a razor-sharp edge. Finally, we give the knife a hammered forge finish for that extra bit of rugged style.
Each blade is tempered for a balance between toughness and edge retention.
A handcrafted vegetable-stained leather sheath provides the perfect storage.
The Smith is a compact, sturdy, efficient knife that works great as an every-day-carry.
These knives have an asymmetrical grind, so they are not ambidextrous. Refer to the ordering notes below for instructions on getting a right or left-handed blade.
Must be 18 years or older to purchase. Know your local knife laws.
- ▼Ordering Notes
- Please order the knife according to the hand you’ll use to hold it. They are crafted with an asymmetric hollow grind, so they’re not ambidextrous.
- Our blades are made with high carbon steel. This steel is known for its edge retention and durability. However, unlike stainless steel these blades will naturally oxidize over time and gain a beautiful patina.
Care must be taken to prevent corrosion or rust on the blade. Click here for information on how to care for your Origin Handcrafted knife.
- Our knives are designed with everyday use in mind and come with an Everyday Structural Guarantee. If for some reason our knives fail to perform as they should, we will replace or repair them at no cost to you. Note that this guarantee does not apply if the knife has been misused or improperly cared for.
To ensure your knife lasts as long (and longer) than you do, follow the steps outlined in our Knife Care section.
